Modelling Lead

The Modelling Lead reports to the Forecasting and Supplier Levy Manager. The main purpose of the role is to build, maintain and operate various models that are used by different areas in the business to generate insights, streamline processes and develop the business strategy. Moreover, the role also includes generating forecasts of future Contract for Difference costs and the risks around those costs. The main purpose of these forecasts is to set the Interim Levy Rate and Total Reserve Amount as required by regulation. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing, cleansing and maintaining datasets required for modelling purposes
  • Designing and building short- and long-term energy models, used in forecasting, as well as for generating insights that support the internal position of the company on various strategic topics
  • Supporting other teams with modelling and analysis
  • Producing high quality technical documentation for each model
  • Identifying and streamlining inefficient processes
  • Communicating to suppliers through a variety of fora
  • Testing software updates to the team’s models
  • Assisting with reporting KPIs and other performance metrics
  • Identifying areas of the business for enhanced modelling

  • A good first degree or higher degree in a numerate subject is essential
  • Experience in using Python, R and SQL, as well as a strong familiarity with Excel 
  • Experience in modelling, forecasting or analysis in the electricity industry (ideally midstream, transmission or generation, or alternatively a midstream facing function in a retail business) is desirable
  • Understanding of the electricity market is desirable
