Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) is thrilled to announce it has signed contracts with two industrial carbon capture usage and storage (CCUS) projects that are leading the way in decarbonising hard to abate sectors.
The Padeswood Cement Works Carbon Capture and Storage Project will capture and store CO₂ from the Padeswood cement works in north Wales.
The Protos Energy Recovery Facility will produce 49.9 MW electricity from non-recyclable residual waste, with a carbon capture system to enable the facility to operate with minimal emissions.
Both projects form part of the HyNet cluster. Located across northwest England and north Wales, HyNet includes some of the UK’s most advanced large-scale CCUS projects selected to kickstart the country’s low-carbon industrial future.
These projects will connect to CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure, including pipelines and offshore geological storage sites.
Industrial carbon capture has a strategic and enabling role to play in achieving Net Zero by decarbonising heavy industries like steel, cement and chemicals, as well as power generation.
LCCC serves as the private law counterparty for the revenue support contracts that form part of the Industrial Carbon Capture and Industrial Carbon Capture Waste business models.
This builds on LCCC’s decade of success delivering the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme in renewable electricity generation.
The two projects will contribute to the UK Government’s target to capture between 20-30 million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2030.
These two projects represent the role CCUS has to play in decarbonising Great Britain's heavy industries and advancing energy from waste. We’re thrilled to be the counterparty to these contracts, providing these first of kind projects the confidence and certainty to proceed.
